Bloomberg workshops

The Canaccord Learning Commons is offering a series of Bloomberg workshops this year.

Create your account

1. Log in to the terminal using the same account you use for all campus computers (cwl.stu). If you can't log in, reset your CWL password on a computer in the library (www.myaccount.ubc.ca and follow the guidelines), then try again.

2. Click the "Bloomberg" icon on the desktop. Select  "create a new account" option.

3. Follow the prompts on screen to create your account.

4. Provide your cell phone number so they can text you a code to complete the process.

Your account will work on all of the Bloomberg terminals on campus.

When you sign up for an individual account in Bloomberg, please use your personal ubc.ca email address as your work address. You cannot use any non-UBC email address. Using a generic ubc.ca email address that does not belong to you constitutes non-academic misconduct.

Remote access for Bloomberg is not available. If you are currently enrolled in a UBC Sauder course for which completing Bloomberg certification is an assignment, please refer to course instructions shared on your course Canvas.

Bloomberg data limits

All Bloomberg terminals have a monthly data downloading limit, enforced by Bloomberg:

  • If the limit is reached, users will see the error message: #N/A Limit.
  • The limit is based on the number of unique securities accessed and the type of data (e.g., intraday data counts more than end-of-day historical data).
  • Bloomberg advises keeping usage to 5,000–7,000 unique identifiers per month.
  • Once a security is used in a month, repeated downloads of that same security do not count again toward the limit.

Important notes:

  • Bloomberg does not extend data limits for educational subscriptions. Limits reset only at the start of each month.
  • Data limits are tied to individual licenses. If one terminal reaches its limit, other terminals may still have capacity.
    • Sauder students can switch between terminals in both the Leith Wheeler Investment Research Lab and the Wayne Deans Investment Analysis Centre.
    • Non-Sauder students may only use the Leith Wheeler Investment Research Lab terminals.
    • The three Okanagan terminals fall under a single license; therefore, switching between terminals will not give additional capacity.
  • Please download responsibly to help ensure access for all users.
