Country Comparisons

The following resources can produce side-by-side comparisons of two or more countries:

    • OECD iLibrary  provides online access to all books, journals, statistical series and databases originating from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development since 1998. UBC has access to the International Energy Agency's IEA Databases and to OECD.Stat.
    • World Bank Data The World Bank has collected statistical data for over 550 development indicators and time series data, from 1960 onward, for over 200 countries and 18 country groups in World Development Indicators, Global Development Finance, Africa Development Indicators, and other databases. Data includes social, economic, financial, natural resources, and environmental indicators.

    • Eurostat Country Profiles Compare EU and a number of other countries (including Canada) on a selection of indicators.
    • NationMaster  Compare two countries by braod category, e.g. "education." Can be slow to download
    • Population Reference Bureau  Includes US and international statistics; American statistics are broken down to the city level. Compare many places for one indicator to produce a customizable Ranked List, Trend Line, Stacked or Horizontal Bar Chart, or Map.
    • World Development Indicators  Browse through the 300 most popular indicators in the World Bank's databank. Indicators are arranged in broad subjects, such as "gender." Covers 216 economies, since 1960. Can expand to 1,000 indicators on this easy-to-use site, or link out to the full World DataBank, which has 7,000 indicators.
