Embase (Excerpta Medica dataBASE) is published by Elsevier and covers somewhat different literature than Medline:
- Includes abstracts of conference papers and posters, as well as preprints, in addition to journal articles
- More focus on European and other non-North American journals
- More pharmacy trade journals and pharmacy education journals
- More in vitro, animal, and early phase clinical research on drugs
- For most topics, 40-60% overlap in journal coverage with Medline
UBC subscribes to Embase via Ovid (link below). This has some advantages, as you can rerun a search built in Ovid Medline in Embase and deduplicate results. (Note that this is not a best practice when doing searches for systematic reviews.)
