Tata Motors Limited (NSE: TATAMOTORS; BSE: 500570; NYSE; NASDAQ: TTM) is India’s largest automobile manufacturing company. It is the leader in commercial vehicles in each segment, and among the top three in passenger vehicles with products in the compact, midsize and utility vehicle segments. Tata is the world's fourth largest truck manufacturer and third largest bus manufacturer. In 2011, it opened an assembly plant in South Africa.
Established in 1945, Tata Motors' manufacturing base in India is spread across Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), Sanand (Gujarat) and Dharwad (Karnataka). Following a strategic alliance with Fiat in 2005, it set up an industrial joint venture at Ranjangaon (Maharashtra) to produce Fiat and Tata cars and Fiat powertrains. Tata also distributes and markets Fiat branded cars in India. In March 2009, Tata launched its People's Car, the Tata Nano (Source: Tata Motors).
