Visiting UBC Library

Due to licensing terms, the UBC Library is not able to provide alumni with remote access to all the online resources available to currently enrolled students. These may be accessed physically on campus at a public computer in any library branch.

The Library offers a range of services to UBC Alumni, including access to print and video collections, attractive spaces and assistance using our resources. We encourage you to visit us often and stay connected.

Borrowing from UBC Library

The Library is pleased to offer free community borrower privileges to UBC alumni who have the alumni UBC App or have obtained an Alumni Association ACard. Community Borrower Library Cards normally cost $120 per year.

Activating Your Borrower Privileges:

Once you have downloaded the alumni UBC App, log in and go to the 'Verified Alumni' tile to see your library barcode number. This barcode can be used to sign out library materials. If you do not have a library barcode number visible in the app, you can request one here. Within 10 days of completing the form you will be issued an alumni library barcode number. Once the barcode number is visible in your app, you are ready to check out books and other resources.

If you have an Alumni Association ACard, you can activate the card and obtain free community borrower privileges by using this online form, or in-person by visiting Koerner Library or UBC Okanagan Library. Your access to UBC library e-Resources may take up to 14-days while your Alumni Card is processed by Development and Alumni Engagement Services. You may still activate your Alumni Card in person for borrowing books at Koerner Library or Okanagan Library as soon as you receive the card.

Resources and Services:

  • Basic reference assistance, access to most library e-Resources using library branch computers, collections use and study spaces are available to everyone in the libraries free of charge.
  • Most books may be borrowed for 2-weeks and are renewable if not requested by another borrower.
  • Certain materials cannot be borrowed including course reserve items, journals, reference books, and some videos subject to licensing restrictions.
  • Interlibrary loans and Document Delivery requests are available as fee-based library services.
  • The maximum number of items on loan at one time is 50 (limit of 5 items on loan at one time for patrons who receive their Community Borrower card through the COPPUL Reciprocal Borrowing agreement).
  • Fines are charged on all overdue loans.
