Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre (IRSHDC)
Located on unceded Musqueam territory, on the University of British Columbia's Vancouver campus, the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre “works with partners across disciplines, at UBC and beyond, to facilitate dialogues and access to records and information that support engaging the legacies of the residential school system and the on-going impacts of colonialism in Canada.” IRSHDC is a, "Survivor-centred, trauma-informed space, [and]... works in service to Indigenous communities and peoples of Canada."

Orange Shirt Day September 30th
September 30th is Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day is a movement to recognize and remember Indigenous children who attended residential schools; both survivors still with us and ancestors lost within these schools. The origin of Orange Shirt Day comes from residential school survivor Phyllis (Jack) Webstad who tells the story of her orange shirt and experiences in residential school.

When Phyllis Webstad turned six, she went to the residential school for the first time. On her first day at school, she wore a shiny orange shirt that her Granny had bought for her, but when she got to the school, it was taken away from her and never returned. Contains teacher lesson plans and resources.
