The following databases can be useful for locating articles on First Nations Languages and Linguistics. For a more complete list of databases, please consult our First Nations or Linguistics research guides.

  • Bibliography of Native North Americans - Indexes books, journal articles, essays, conference papers, dissertations and US government articles and includes the citations from the cumulative eight volumes of the Ethnographic Bibliography of North America. Stronger in older ethnological studies than it is in current political studies. 
  • MLA (Modern Language Association) Bibliography - Citations from over 4,000 journals and series with some First Nations language and literature coverage. Indexes journals such as, Studies in American Indian Literature; North Dakota Quarterly; American Indian Culture & Research; Canadian Journal of Native Studies.
  • Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts - Indexes books, journal articles, technical reports, dissertations from the scientific study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics.
