Manage Your Research Data

Research data is data created or generated as part of a research project, including numeric data, text, transcripts, images, video and audio recordings and more. Good research data management prevents data loss, keeps data secure and facilitates data sharing.

UBC Library offers advice and services for research data management, including

DMP (Data Management Plan) Assistant - an online tool to help you create a plan that complies with funding agency requirements
UBC Dataverse @ Scholars Portal - an application provided by UBC Library to manage and share your data
UBC Library Data Guide (version 4.2; May 2017) - a brief guide with suggestions for and examples of best practices
Best Practices in Research Data Mangement - 1 1/2 hour workshop offered six times each year

Data Repositories

UBC Dataverse@ Scholars Portal
An open source application to publish, share, reference, cite, extract and analyze research data. UBC Library can create a Dataverse setup for your research group where you can actively manage your data, share it securely with colleagues, provide version control, establish a permanent data citation, get a DOI for your dataset, and more.
Dryad
Dryad is a curated general-purpose repository that makes the data underlying scientific publications discoverable, freely reusable, and citable. Dryad has integrated data submission for a growing list of journals; submission of data from other publications is also welcome.
Figshare
Figshare provides limited free storage space for research data from any discipline. You can make your data public or limit access.

OpenICPSR
Data deposited in OpenICPSR meets funder Open Access requirements. UBC Library is an institutional member: the fee for simple deposit of data by UBC researchers is waived.
