NRSG 120: Introduction to Nursing Research

In this guide...

This guide is designed for the evidence exploration group assignment in NRSG 120: Introduction to Nursing Research at UBC's Okanagan Campus, Winter 2022.  In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to identify a research question of interest, conduct a systematic (albeit limited) review of the literature by searching Medline and CINAHL, write a brief background of why your topic is important, and explore some findings related to your topic.

Instructor: Rishma Chooniedass

Recommended work plan:

  1. Spend time developing your research question (using the PICO format can help!)
  2. Search Medline (EBSCO) for your topic using MeSH / keywords (change results display to include abstracts)
  3. Combine your Medline results with methodological search filters (qualitative and quantitative)
  4. Review and select at least 3 articles
  5. Search CINAHL using CINAHL Headings / keywords (change display to include abstracts)
  6. Apply limiters of Research Articles & Exclude Medline Records
