Search for Reports through UBC Library

Reports from governments, NGOs, and other organizations are often available in the Library. You can search for reports using Summon or the catalogue, in the same way you would search for a book. Additional tips:

  • Remember to refine your search by Content Type to Report, Government Document, Technical Report, Book / eBook, or other type as appropriate. You can also refine your search by Publication Date.
  • Try searching by the organization's name, keeping in mind any past name changes especially for government departments. E.g. Ministry of Forests
  • For more search options, in Summon try the Advanced Search or in the catalogue try the Guided Keyword Search.
  • To find more publications by that organization, find one publication and then click on the authoring organization to see more.

Google Search Tips

Google can be useful for searching the websites of government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community groups and companies to find press releases, reports, etc.

Here are a few commands to focus your search. You can also use the Google Advanced search if you can't remember the commands.

  • Keyword search in the webpage title only: allintitle:South Okanagan similkameen national park
  • Phrase search using quotation marks: South Okanagan similkameen national park “Okanagan Nation Alliance”
  • Restrict search to a specific website or domain (e.g. Okanagan Nation Alliance): site:syilx.org [or cpawsbc.org, gc.ca, gov.bc.ca]
  • File Format search (e.g. pdf documents only): filetype:pdf
