Himalayan Studies

Designed by UBC Himalaya Program and Asian Studies language instructors Binod Shrestha (Nepali) and Sonam Chusang (Tibetan) as self-paced, open access courses, these Open Educational Resources (OERs) offer learners a basic introduction to each language, with lessons on script, grammar, basic vocabulary, and guidance on how to carry out a basic conversation.   A Practical Dictionary of Modern Nepali, compiled by Ruth Laila Schmidt, has been made available through the Digital Dictionaries of South Asia initiative at Chicago University.

  A Comparative and Etymological Dictionary of Nepali Language compiled by Ralph Lilley Turner. This has been made available through the Digital Dictionaries of South Asia initiative at Chicago University.

   
• Tibetan online dictionary 

  The Rangjung Yeshe Dictionary includes contributions from Erik Pema Kunsang, Jim Valby, Ives Waldo, Matthieu Ricard, Richard Barron, and others.

   
• The Tibetan and Himalayan Library translation tool 

  This Tibetan to English translation tool has been made available by the Tibetan and Himalayan Library.
