Knowledge Synthesis: Systematic, Scoping & Other Reviews

Reporting on the search methods

The PRISMA 2020 Statement is a widely adopted reporting guideline for systematic reviews. Its elements are available in a checklist linked below; and PRISMA flow diagrams are typically used to summarize search and screening decisions. There are several extensions for special topics, including PRISMA-ScR for scoping reviews, and PRISMA-S search extension for additional detail on reporting search methods.

For more reporting guidance, please see the guidelines in the Planning Your Review section of this guide that correspond with the type of review you're doing and the subject (social sciences, environment, health, etc). If you're intending to publish in a journal, check its Instructions for Authors for any additional guidelines specific to systematic or scoping reviews.
