World Religions

Getting Started

Welcome! This guide highlights key library resources for conducting research about world religions at UBC. To make the process easier and smoother, each of the religious traditions covered in this guide has its own tab on the left, wherein relevant library resources are further organized by type, geography, topic etc. For a general introduction to world religions, religious history and study of religion, please explore indexes and databases listed below:

  • Atla Religion Database with AtlaSerials compiled by the American Theological Library Association, includes journal articles and citations, and covers Biblical studies, world religions, church history and religious perspectives on social issues.
  • Database of Religious History based at the University of British Columbia is a massive, standardized, searchable encyclopedia of the current scholarly opinion on historical religious traditions and the historical record more generally.
  • Index to the Study of Religions is the online version of the Brill journal Science of Religion whose main objective is to facilitate the work and international collaboration of scholars in the academic study of religions and related fields.
