Reusing Pages and Boxes

LibGuides makes it very easy to reuse guides, pages, boxes, and content to save you time and work in creating and maintaining your guides. You can reuse an entire guide by selecting it as a template when creating a new one, or you can reuse individual pages and boxes, and assets including links, databases, media/widgets, documents, books from the catalog and more.

When reusing content, you can either map to the original item, or copy it. If you map to a page or box, you can:

  • Change the page or box title.

For more editing options, you can copy an item and:

  • Change the page title and add, delete, or reorder boxes on the page.

  • Change the box title and add, delete, or edit content within the box.

More details and help

For commonly reused search widgets, visit the Reusable Content subpage in this guide.

For more information on reusing pages and boxes, see Springshare's FAQs:

For information on reusing assets, search the LibGuides FAQ for the asset type you are looking for, e.g. Link assets.

Hierarchy of Reusability

Guide: Copied guides carry over all pages, boxes, and content items
Page: Reused pages carry over all boxes and content items

Box: Reused boxes carry over all content items

Content Item: Reused content items carry over the information for that item

Mapping vs. Copying

 Map if:
  • You want to use the exact original, without editing the content within it - you can still edit the title
  • You'd like your item updated automatically when edits are made to the original
 Copy if:
  • You want to use another box as a template, but you want to edit or add to content within it
  • You don't want the new item to be "mapped" and updated when the original item is edited

Reusing Assets

To reuse a content asset, choose the asset type from the Add/Reorder dropdown list. Then, in the Reuse Existing tab, search for the asset you want to use.
