What is Journal Impact Factor?
It is a way of measuring a journal's impact, based on the number of articles published in a given journal, and the number of times articles have been cited over time.
How can I find out which journals are high impact?
InCites Journal Citation Reports provides a list of journals ranked by impact factor. After entering the database, select "Browse by Journal". Then, click on the "Select Categories" dropdown on the left side of the screen, and select the discipline you wish to find journals for, such as "Business". Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the submit button on the bottom left to return results.
Another source that can be used is Scimago Journal & Country Rank, which ranks journals based on the number of citations received by a journal and the importance/prestige of the journals where the citations come from (SJR Indicator). This is an alternative metric to Journal Impact Factor. Select the category or subject area you are interested in exploring by using the dropdown boxes at the top of the page.
UBC Library's Citation Analysis & Impact Factors page provides an introduction to citation analysis and impact factors as well as information on metrics and analysis tools.
