Chicago Manual of Style

The Chicago Manual of Style contains information on how to format a citation and ways to format your annotation in section 13.68

Annotated Bibliographies are made up of two parts:

  1. A formatted Chicago bibliography entry
  2. An annotation, which will often summarize the source and include information on how this source relates to your chosen topic

Some helpful tips:

  1. While a generated citation is a fine place to start, always double check these against the Chicago Manual of Style, as they will often make mistakes
  2. Do not just copy the abstract of an article as an annotation! You are responsible for writing your own.
  3. Ensure your citation uses a hanging indent of 0.5in/1.27cm. Your word processor should be able to do this for you!
  4. Include a line space between your citation and the annotation, and ensure the entire annotation is indented 0.5in/1.27cm from the left margin
