A report by the Petroleum Labour Market Information (formerly known as Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada) notes that uncertainty over market access and continued low natural gas prices have not dampened the growing need for a skilled workforce, according to a survey of 41 petroleum companies in Canada representing over 50,000 employees within the upstream and midstream sectors of the industry.

1. Industry needs workers - with demand primarily driven by growth in the oil sands in situ sector.
2. Skill shortages have become a key business issue.
3. Companies are shifting business and workforce strategies to respond to market conditions.
