UBC Okanagan Library Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Describes EDI work underway at UBCO Library. Provides resources relating to EDI.

Purpose of the group

The Recruitment, Retention and Success Working Group aims to investigate and report on needs for inclusive recruitment, and for retaining and supporting the success of diverse students, staff and faculty.

Membership

Current

  • Kim Buschert, Faculty of Management Librarian
  • Sajni Lacey, Learning and Curriculum Support Librarian

Past

  • Stephanie Plumb, Library Services Assistant - Records Management
  • Meghan Currie, Inclusive Technology Coordinator

Active projects

  • Investigate best practices for developing a formal mentorship program for new Okanagan Library employees

Past projects

  • Create a list of resources for new employees, to support successful onboarding. This list was created by crowdsourcing ideas from employees.
  • We reviewed previous Library working group reports on inclusive recruitment and retention, and newly available information, such as the 2020 CARL document, Strategies and practices for hiring and retaining diverse talent, and conducted an environmental scan of recent internal and external job postings related to descriptions of job location. We then created a revised set of recommendations specific to creating more inclusive UBCO Library postings, which we shared with the Associate Chief Librarian and the Operations Leadership Team, and posted to the Library intranet.
