What is an eBook?

An eBook is a full electronic book or digital file containing a body of text and images suitable for distributing electronically and displaying on-screen in a manner similar to a printed book.

Ebooks can be created by converting a printer’s source files to formats optimized for easy downloading and on-screen reading, or they can be drawn from a database or a set of text files that were not created solely for print.

Why read eBooks?

  • Regularly updated content
  • Following linked citations
  • Search functions within the eBooks
  • Ease of sharing with peers
  • No special electronic devices required
  • Accessible anywhere with an Internet connection

Difference between eBooks and eBook Collections

eBook providers offer different selections of titles with varying terms and features. It includes but is not limited to downloading the whole book or chapters, sharing content through social media and interactive features such as highlighting and notetaking.

Providers such as ebrary allow users to download the whole eBook as compared to Business Expert Press  where they are more restrictive and the books can only be read online. The eBook Collection tab will provided further information on that aspect.

There are two ways to search for eBooks:

1. Search for eBooks through the library catalogue as explained in the Finding eBooks tab

2. Pick a collection listed in the eBook Collections tab and browse/search through your selected collection
