Researching new enterprises is complex and requires a diverse array of secondary resources. To save yourself time and frustration, it's important to think about the information you need before starting your research, and also being realistic about what is actually available.
If your industry is very specialized, or emerging, or fragmented, or dominated by privately held competitors, there may be little to no information in the library databases or free sources identified in this guide. Industry or consumer data may be collected at a more general level than what you have specified. Be prepared to read and analyze what is available and recognize that you may have to adjust your searches and your expectations.
In order to assist you customizing your research strategy, the David Lam librarians have developed two guides:
- Research Tips - tips on how to search databases effectively and how to take a realistic approach to your research
Once you have thought about the information you want to find, browse the resources listed in this guide and/or click on the Home tab to browse the research guides to specific industries.
If you cannot find a separate guide for your industry, use the resources listed in this guide.
