This is an annotated catalogue of the most important official statistical publications produced by the Government of Japan and its Ministries and Divisions. Entries include information such as the authoring agency, a statement of purpose, a general overview of the contents of the survey, its frequency, official title and available languages. Statistical Handbook of Japan. UBC Library has 1958; select issues from the 1960s and 1970s; and 1980 - present. This title is produced by the Statistics Bureau of Japan and serves as a quick guide to official Japanese statistics. The handbook provides "statistical tables, figures, maps and photographs to portray conditions in modern-day Japan from a variety of perspectives, including demographics, economic and social trends, and culture." This bilingual title is "a comprehensive and systematic compendium of the basic statistical information of Japan, covering wide-ranging fields such as land, population, society and culture." Other topics covered include transport, labour, balance of trade, prices, domestic trade, housing, social security and the environment.
Monthly statistics of Japan. UBC Library has this title from 1961 - 2006, with some missing volumes. From the government Statistics Bureau of the Management and Coordination Agency, Japan, this bilingual publication "contains the basic statistical information of Japan, covering population, economy, society, etc., for the comprehensive understanding of today's Japan. Data are systematically selected from the latest releases of monthly or quarterly statistical information. It is mainly designed to provide the general public with monthly statistical information that allows understanding of the nation-wide trends."
Financial statistics of Japan. UBC Library has this title from 1982 - present. This title is produced by the Japanese Ministry of Finance each year and "contains the main economic indicators, GDP statistics, a budget, taxes, public finance, money and banking, balance of payments statistics etc." for Japan.
