To use Mendeley, you will need to create a Mendeley account and download the Desktop version.

Writing a paper with in text citations and a bibliography

  1. Download the MS Word plugin. Find more detailed instructions here.
  2. Find the Mendeley Cite in MS Word under References in the navigation menu.
  3. Select the American Psychological Association, 6th edition (or alternate) citation style.
  4. Use Insert Citation to add citations.
  5. Use Insert Bibliography create a list of citations at the end of your paper.
  6. If there are errors in the citations, correct them first in your Mendeley account and then Refresh your document.

 

APA Style

American Psychological Association (APA) style is one of several citation styles used in academic writing. The seventh edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association is a comprehensive resource, available at most UBC Libraries.
