UBC School of Library, Archival and Information Studies (SLAIS)
- First Nations Curriculum Concentration (MAS & MLIS)The iSchool has developed a First Nations Curriculum Concentration to serve the educational needs of information professionals to work effectively in libraries and archives, both within and outside native communities.
- Gene Joseph Aboriginal ScholarshipIn 1997, the Gene Joseph First Nations Scholarship was established in honour of Gene Joseph, tireless advocate for First Nations libraries. It is awarded to First Nations, Métis, or Inuit graduate students in the UBC School of Library, Archives and Information Studies.
Internships
- Indigenous Internship Program (Canadian Museum of History)The Indigenous Internship Program offers professional and technical training for First Nations, Métis and Inuit participants. The goal of the Program is to develop ways for Indigenous nations across Canada to represent their own history and culture in concert with cultural institutions.
US Scholarships
- Spectrum Scholarship Program (American Library Association)Indigenous, Hispanic, & African American graduate students in Library Information Studies programs (includes Canadian students) are eligible. Amount: $5000 USD. March deadline.
- DEMCO/AILA School Scholarship (American Indian Library Association)American Indian / Alaskan Native students who are enrolled in, or have been accepted to and will enroll in a master's degree program in an American Library Association accredited library school are eligible. Amount: $2000 USD.
- Indigenous Perspectives in School Librarianship ScholarshipMontana State University is offering scholarships for 15 Alaskan library professionals to obtain a Library Media Certificate through the university’s Indigenous Perspectives in School Librarianship program.
International Programs
- Knowledge RiverSchool of Information Resources & Library Science, University of Arizona. Graduate Program. Library & Information issues from the perspectives of Native American & Hispanic people.
- Honouring GenerationsSchool of Information. University of Texas at Austin, Graduate Program.
- School of Information Management, Te Kura Tiaki, Whakawhiti KoreroVictoria Business School, University of Wellington. Includes awareness of principles of the Treaty of Waitangi in course structures and content.
- Poutuarongo Puna Maumahara - Information Management3 year program to develop bilingual and bi-cultural managers of Māori information resources in Māori and non-Māori organizations.
- Montana State University's (MSU)Montana State University's (MSU) Department of Education in the College of Education, Health and Human Development is excited to announce that it has received a three-year grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program.
Volunteer Opportunities
BC Library Association - First Nations Interest Group
FNIG encourages the development of reciprocal relationships between Aboriginal communities and information organizations such as libraries and community resource centres.
