FNIS 401F: New Media Practices and Applications in Indigenous Studies
Designed as a compliment to FNIS 454, FNIS 401F provides students with hands on training in the Digital Humanities (DH) and new media technologies, including social media, digital exhibition, podcasting, digital storytelling, sound editing, Wikipedia editing, and geographical information systems (GIS). At stake in all of our work in this class are the impacts (both positive and negative) that new media can make towards decolonization and Indigenous resurgence. Students in 401F receive basic training in the use of new media hardware and software, learn from experts in the field, and produce digital work with and for Indigenous communities.

- APTN Scholarship ProgramThe Aboriginal Peoples Television Network offers scholarships to First Nation, Inuit, or Métis students living in Canada.
- Canada Council for the Arts: Aboriginal Media Arts ProgramFunding model will change in 2017, but currently this is the model in use.
- Canadian Media Fund: Aboriginal ProgramSupports independent Aboriginal production in Canada. Content must be developed for distribution on at least two platforms, one of which must be television.

- NFB Filmmaker Support ProgramsFunding opportunities from the National Film Board of Canada.
- Northern Aboriginal Broadcasting: Aboriginal Peoples' ProgramGovernment of Canada - Canadian Heritage funding for Aboriginal broadcasting societies to produce and distribute audio and visual content in the north. Originally established as part of the federal government’s Northern Native Broadcasting Policy.
- NSI CoursesThe National Screen Institute Canada offers several funding opportunities through its courses, including an Aboriginal documentary course.
