Research Impact Challenge: Challenge 10: Increase your Visibility: Publish in Open Access Journals

Challenge Description

Challenge Ten
Increase your Visibility:
Publish in Open Access Journals

Publishing in Open Access (OA) journals is a great way to make your work available for all to read, and it has the added advantage of getting you more citations, views, Mendeley readers and Twitter mentions. What’s not to love about that?

In this Challenge, you’ll use the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) to determine which journals in your discipline are Open Access.

This session will be led by Leonora Crema, Scholarly Communications Librarian, and Shirin Eshghi, Interim Scholarly Communicaions Librarian and Japanese Language Librarian.

The Challenge

In this Challenge, you’ll use the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) to determine which journals in your discipline are Open Access.

Step 1

Go to the DOAJ site and look for relevant disciplines/subject areas that are relevant to you. Try different types of searches - keyword searching as well as subject browse.

Step 2

Consider what open access journals are not included in DOAJ. Read the first section of the About DOAJ page and discuss possible challenges for journals in your field.
